India Boosts Drone Security with C-DOT, Synergy Quantum Pact

The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), a premier R&D institution under the Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Synergy Quantum India to collaboratively develop Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology specifically designed for drone-based communication systems.

This strategic partnership aims to strengthen India’s capabilities in secure quantum communication, particularly in the emerging area of unmanned aerial systems. By integrating QKD with drone platforms, the collaboration seeks to ensure highly secure data transmission for applications in defense, surveillance, and critical infrastructure.

QKD, a cutting-edge quantum cryptographic technique, enables the creation of encryption keys that are theoretically unbreakable, thereby significantly enhancing the confidentiality of communication channels. The adaptation of this technology to mobile and airborne platforms like drones presents unique challenges, including mobility, power constraints, and real-time processing—areas which the collaboration aims to address through joint research and innovation.

This MoU is a significant step in advancing India’s quantum communication ecosystem and reflects the growing emphasis on integrating quantum technologies with emerging platforms like drones.
