According to official data, the turnover of Khadi and village industries has crossed an all-time high of ₹1.5 lakh crore, a testament to the growing popularity and demand for eco-friendly, indigenous products. This surge reflects a dramatic transformation in consumer perception, with Khadi now becoming a fashionable and sustainable choice across India.
KVIC’s initiatives have also led to the creation of millions of new jobs in rural areas, primarily through schemes like the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). These efforts have enabled lakhs of artisans, weavers, and entrepreneurs to achieve financial independence.
Chairman of KVIC, Shri Manoj Kumar, credited the success to the Prime Minister’s vision and support. “PM Modi has not only revived Khadi but has turned it into a movement. From airport uniforms to designer collections, Khadi is now a global brand,” he said.
Modernization and innovation have also played a crucial role, with KVIC adopting digital platforms, introducing solar-powered charkhas, and enhancing marketing strategies. These steps have helped the traditionally handcrafted products reach a broader, tech-savvy audience.
With global demand also on the rise, Khadi is now making its mark on the international stage, showcasing India’s rich heritage and commitment to sustainability.
