India’s first cooperation-based taxi service “Bharat Taxi” launch in Gujarat

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah will launch the cooperation-based ride-hailing service ‘Bharat Taxi’ in Gujarat, marking a significant step towards expanding the cooperative movement into the transport sector.

Developed on the cooperative model, Bharat Taxi aims to provide an alternative to existing app-based cab aggregators by ensuring greater benefits for drivers. Under the initiative, drivers will become members of the cooperative, enabling them to receive a larger share of the earnings while reducing dependence on private platforms.

The initiative is expected to strengthen the government’s vision of promoting cooperative-led economic growth, generating employment opportunities, and empowering taxi drivers through collective ownership and transparent operations. It also seeks to offer passengers safe, reliable, and affordable transport services.

The launch reflects the government’s continued efforts to diversify the cooperative sector into new areas, creating sustainable livelihood opportunities and fostering inclusive development through community-owned enterprises.
