Government is helping women self-help groups to enhance their livelihood


Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh today held a Public Darbar at Chenani (Udhampur) and interacted with women Self Help Groups (SHGs) and startups and also launched a telemedicine AI powered service “Doctor on Wheels”. “Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) is not only assisting women Self Help Groups (SHGs) to enhance their livelihoods but also promoting self-employment opportunities for local youth,” he said here today. He was speaking at an exhibition on NRLM organised at Government Higher Secondary School, Chenani Tehsil, Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that the women Self Help Groups associated through this Mission have not only become self-reliant but are also providing employment opportunities to other women and youth. He said that Lakhpati Didi – the Didis of Self Help Groups, who are earning sustainable income and have become role models in the society, will transform the rural economy. Dr Singh said that DAY-NRLM, a flagship programme of the Government, is the world's largest initiative for improving the livelihood of the poor.

Speaking on the development of infrastructure in Udhampur-Kathua-Doda Lok Sabha constituency, Dr Jitendra Singh said that roads and highways are being constructed at a rapid pace under PMGSY with the aim to improve connectivity in remote areas and reduce travel time. “Completion of new National Highway from Lakhanpur-Bani-Basohli-Doda will enhance connectivity and ease travel,” Dr Singh said. Similarly, Goha-Khelani-Khannabal National Highway connecting Chenani-Sudhmahadev-Khelani-Chatroo-Khannabal will provide an alternate route for surface transport.
