Indian Coast Guard rescues injured fisherman off Gujarat coast

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has successfully completed a daring night rescue operation to save a fisherman who had sustained head injuries. On the night of May 01, 2024, a fisherman tragically drowned on the Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) St. Francis due to rough sea conditions about 130 km west of Veraval, Gujarat.

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) received a distress call from the Coast Guard Marine Rescue Sub Center at Veraval. Responding quickly, Indian Coast Guard (ICG) ship C-153, which was on a surveillance mission at the time, diverted its course to assist in the medical evacuation. The ICG successfully evacuated the injured fisherman from IFB St. Francis and immediately shifted him to a medical facility at Veraval for further treatment.

This rescue operation is in recognition of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG)'s commitment to protect the precious life at sea, ensure the safety of all persons entering the sea waters and remain true to its motto “We Protect” or “Vayam Raksham”. Underlines commitment.
