DRDO successfully flight tests indigenous cruise missile

Defense Research and Development Organization successfully flight tested indigenously developed cruise missile from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha today, April 18, 2024. All sub-systems of the missile performed as expected during the test. The Integrated Test Range-ITR had deployed multiple range sensors such as radar, Electro Optical Tracking System (EOTS) and telemetry at various locations to monitor the performance of the missile. The flight of the missile was also monitored by SU-30-MK-I aircraft of the Indian Air Force.

The missile followed the target path using the guidance navigation system and performed very low altitude sea-skimming flight. This successful flight test has also established the reliable performance of the indigenous operating system developed by Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), Bengaluru.

The missile is also equipped with advanced avionics and software to ensure better and reliable performance. The missile has been developed by the Bengaluru-based Defense Research and Development Organization Laboratory Aeronautical Development Establishment with contributions from other laboratories and Indian industries. During the test, many senior scientists from various Defense Research and Development Organization laboratories and representatives of the partners in its construction were also present.

Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh has congratulated the Defense Research and Development Organization for the successful flight-testing of the cruise missile developed with indigenous technology. He said that the successful development of indigenously operated long-range subsonic cruise missile is a major achievement of Indian defense research and development.

Dr. Sameer V Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defense Research and Development and Chairman, DRDO, congratulated the entire team of Defense Research and Development Organization on the successful conduct of the cruise missile launch developed with indigenous technology.
