AFMS and IIT Kanpur to work together to address health challenges of soldiers in harsh terrain


The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur on 18 April 2024 for collaborative research and training. On this MoU, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services, Lieutenant General Daljit Singh and Acting Director of IIT Kanpur, Professor S. Ganesh signed. Under this MoU, AFMS and IIT Kanpur will jointly conduct research and develop new technologies to tackle the health problems faced by soldiers in remote areas.

IIT Kanpur will also provide technical expertise for developing AI diagnostic models for the Armed Forces Center for Computational Medicine established at the Armed Forces Medical College, the first of its kind among medical colleges in the country. Under this MoU, plans will also be made for exchange of faculty, joint academic activities and development of training modules.

Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant General Daljit Singh said that AFMS is dedicated to providing the highest level of medical care to the soldiers and collaboration with institutions of national importance like IITs is an important step towards this commitment. Professor S. Ganesh stressed the need for inter-professional collaboration and use of advanced technologies like computational medicine and AI in healthcare.
