New terminal building inaugurated at Dehradun airport


Union Minister for Civil Aviation and Steel Shri Jyotiraditya M Scindia inaugurated the new terminal building of Dehradun Airport from New Delhi on 14 February. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also participated in this program from Dehradun. In his inaugural address he said, “To ensure uninterrupted airport operations, the construction of the new terminal building was planned in two phases. After the commissioning of 28,729 square meters in Phase I and 14,047 square meters in Phase II, the overall area of the terminal has increased to 42,776 square meters thus increasing the total capacity of the terminal 10 times.

Elaborating on the developmental work being done to improve air connectivity, he said, “The government is upgrading three airports in Uttarakhand i.e. Dehradun, Pantnagar, Pithoragarh and opening seven heliports, including Almora. , Chinyalisaur, Gauchar, Sahastradhara, New Tehri, Srinagar and Haldwani Heliports. Dharchula, Haridwar, Joshimath, Mussoorie, Nainital and Ramnagar heliports are also being developed and the number of heliports will be increased to 21 in the coming years.”

Spread over 326.42 acres, this airport is also known as Jolly Grant Airport. Located 20 km from Rishikesh and 35 km from Haridwar, this airport serves 10 lakh passengers annually. It is also known as the Air Gateway of Garhwal and plays an important role in the tourism of Uttarakhand.
